What if your home felt like you? What if you could completely be yourself in all areas of life? How would that feel? How would your world be different?

It's About That Feeling

What do you want to feel in your home?

For me, the answer is easy. I have thought years about what I want my home to feel like. For the longest time, I didn't know how to describe it. I remember going into other people's houses and feeling something. I loved being there and I knew that I wanted that in my home.

As I have worked with different people, I've noticed that we all want something from our homes. Some people are looking for a peaceful haven, some are looking for an escape from the world, others are looking for a place of gathering and family.

As you are deciding what you want your home to be, think about these things. Do you want your entire home to feel one way? For me, this is the case. I want people to walk into my home and feel a peace that they want to feel in their homes. Maybe you want a home that has a different feeling depending on the room. Maybe you want the family room to feel fun and the bedroom to feel restful.

Close your eyes and imagine you're looking at your ideal home. It can be the home you are living in, or it can be that dream home you will have someday. Take a deep breath and feel the joy of knowing that is your home and it's just right for you.

Now, walk through the front door. What do you feel as you walk in? Write the word or words that best describe that feeling. Look around and take it in, the feeling and any details you notice. Are there certain colors you need to note? Certain shapes, smells, etc. Are there people there or are you alone? Write it all down because there is a message in each little detail that you become aware of.

After a while in this first room, walk through each room of the house. Note the same things. First, note the feeling and then note the details. Write them all down.

If this is the home you are living in, what can you do right now to bring that feeling into each room? Can you bring the colors in, the smells, the shapes? What is the next step to creating the home you want?

If this was your dream home, what can you do to bring those feelings into the place where you are now? We need to surround ourselves with those feelings now if we want to be aligned with those feelings when we move in. Can we use some of those colors and smells in our current place? Are there things we own that don't fit that feeling? Are there things we need to add to bring in those feelings? What is your next step?

Here is an assignment for you. Every day imagine your home. Tune into those feelings again. Follow it up by asking yourself, “What would it take to bring this feeling into my home?” When you get an answer, act on it.

Feel free to review last week's post about What Would It Take.

The Right Questions

What would it take?

This is one of my favorite questions in the whole wide world. I have heard so many amazing stories about it and I have had my own incredible experiences.

Before I learned this question, I would ask “How can I?” I'd get stuck on something and ask “How can I do this?” I'd often get an idea in my head, act on it and things would be great.

It's based on the idea that we come up against a problem and we usually think there are two answers. Either it has to be done this one way, or it can't be done. I'm sure you have come across things like this. It happens when we are so narrowed into one point and one solution. We can't imagine how it could be done if we didn't do it this one certain way. Either/or, black and white, only one way or no way.

Now, if we take that same situation and ask “How can I?” something amazing happens. When we ask the question, it's like we take a step back and can begin to see that there are other possibilities. Instead of being zoomed in on one solution, we've asked our subconscious mind to start looking for a solution. Our brains love to do that for us so it starts showing other possible solutions.

For me, this was incredible. I was finally starting to get answers. A question I still use is “How can I say this?” I use that when I am trying to explain something. I often get just the right thoughts in my head in order to explain.

When I learned to ask What would it take (WWIT) I found amazing things happened. The first question has one key word in it. The word “I”. “How can I do this?” WWIT doesn't have that small word in it at all. This opens up to even more possibilities! Let me share my favorite personal story.

One day, I was looking at the pantry closet. I was frustrated with how disorganized it was. I also knew that I had a lot going on and the chances that I would be able to get the closet organized was pretty slim. I asked WWIT. “What would it take to get this closet organized?” I didn't receive an answer like I sometimes do. That's okay because the possibilities were put out there.

Note, this all took place in my mind. I didn't express to anyone, not even in a text to a friend. I didn't tell anyone the closet bugged me. I didn't say the WWIT out loud. It was all silent and to myself. The very next day, my mom cleaned out the closet. I was a believer.

Miracles like this don't happen all the time. More often than not, I get a thought in my head. One time, I was struggling with a former website. I knew that a certain function was possible but nothing I was doing was working. When I asked WWIT, my answer was, "Go to bed." I argued. I didn't want to go to bed. I was so close. It was the last function I needed in order to go live. Begrudgingly, I went to bed. When I awoke the next morning, the solution was in my mind. I hopped on and had the site live within a few minutes.

I have heard stories where the idea of what to do came straight to mind. I have heard others being told to go to the park. They didn't know why but they went. While at the park they met someone who had the exact solution they were looking for. When we ask WWIT, we are inviting the universe to play along and orchestrate solutions that don't have “I” in them along with the solutions that do.

Sometimes, we ask WWIT and we get an answer that we don't know how to do. Let's say, you never have built a website before. You asked WWIT to launch a service you have and the answer was, "Build a website." Now, you could say, “I don't know how,” and walk away. Sad for you because you just told the universe “No, I don't really want your help.”

Instead of saying I don't know how, what if you asked WWIT? "WWIT to build a website?" Maybe you don't get an answer but as you get on FB there is an ad for a website design course. You could ask if it was the course for you and if you feel really light and expansive, you know that you just got your answer. Maybe instead, you hear an answer, “Hire someone.” Then you ask, "WWIT to know who to hire? WWIT to pay for it?"

The key to success with WWIT is to ask WWIT until you get to an actionable step and do it. If you don't get an answer, trust it is on its way. Either the answer is coming, and you'll act then, or the universe is putting a bug in someone's ear like with my mom.

Before I go, if you want to really add some power to WWIT, try asking it in prayer. It is my belief that there is a Divine team waiting to serve you and they love to answer this question.

What would it take for you to create what you want to create today?

Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover

Super sorry for missing last week. I have been thinking about this post all week and I would try and write it and it wouldn't work. I'd end up venting about something in life or I'd be writing and my mind would be connecting the dots. The problem was when my mind is connecting the dots like that, my thoughts are super disjointed and you'd be confused. So, here we are Monday morning and I refuse to miss two weeks in a row. This will be a get what you get non-edited post.

One of the thoughts I was trying to put together was about how there are different types of people with money and how that compares to the home. For instance, there are people that love saving. They feel like they are financially free when they have a certain amount in savings. There are certain people that feel financially free when they are investing. There are other people that feel financially free when they have plenty of money to spend. I'm not a spender but that would be my area. I long to be able to buy without budgeting to the penny.

In homes, we have people that are instinctively organized. We have people who love to clean. We have people who hate cleaning. We have hoarders. We have minimalists. We have collectors. We have people who toss like no one will miss it. You might fall somewhere in the middle of one or more of these dichotomies.

What I have noticed is that a pretty discouraging thinking process is comparison. If you are a hoarder, you might find yourself comparing yourself to a minimalist. Then what happens? You start beating yourself up and telling yourself you should do better and you just need to get rid of all of your stuff, which then overwhelms you and you get stuck.

Imagine what would happen if you didn't compare. Maybe you'd decide that you have an excess and it's time to get organized. You'd decide it might be time to get rid of a few things. Because you aren't comparing, you could listen to your heart tell you what you are ready to let go of. You wouldn't be beating yourself up for keeping something that you aren't ready to let go of. You'd love and value yourself for where you are right now. You might even let go of more things because you are valuing yourself where you are. You wouldn't put so much pressure on yourself to be like so-and-so and so the overwhelm wouldn't come.

The person who is what we call “born organized” might actually not be someone you want to be. They may have a severe OCD going on. They need everything in a perfect place because their brain is so out of sorts that they are putting extra pressure on their environment to be perfect. The hoarder might be keeping all of their stuff because they are afraid they will need it one day. They could also have OCD that is such that they can't get it perfect right now so they won't do anything and then it gets too much. We all have our own stories and reasons why we are experiencing life the way we are. When we look at someone's book cover, we may not realize the crazy story that is inside.

Instinctively, we know that too much stuff is weighing us down. What do you need to learn from your stuff? What is your story?

Is your stuff protection to you? Where did it start? What are you protecting yourself from? Is it really still needed? What is the next step to change the story?

Are you keeping your stuff because you may need it one day? Is that even your story or did you inherit it from your ancestor that lived in the great depression when people really did need to keep things? Are you ready to let that story go?

When you release these stories, you can listen to your heart a little better. You can know if you are keeping food storage out of fear or out of obedience. You can know what brings you joy and what you no longer need. You can live in abundant thinking knowing that you will always have exactly what you need, so letting things go is easier.

When we stop comparing, we can look at our own stories. We can decide what stories to keep and what ones to let go. If you need some help in this kind of thing, there are plenty of coaches, mentors, and healers like myself to engage in the work. The important things are looking only at yourself and letting go of the comparison game.

Much love to you!

Seasons Come, Seasons Go

Butterflies, butterflies, butterflies. If you have known me for long, you know that I have a love of butterflies. Yet, here I am getting rid of many butterfly things and often thinking, “I don't want more butterflies.”

The thing about collections, desires, and affinities is they are about seasons. I have been coming to the end of a great transformational period. The butterfly is a symbol of transformation. I still feel a pull to have them for my business which is about transforming lives through the home, but I find that the pull to have them in my life is coming to a close.

Sometimes, our season is like this butterfly for me. We need a symbol in our life for a while and then we're complete. Animal totems will often be like this. Maybe you're drawn to bears for a while because you need what the bear teaches and then you've learned and you're ready for the next totem.

Other times the reason for the end of the season is different. I'll explain a couple of alternative reasons for a season to change.

As I have been writing this, I realized why my season for snow globes came to an end a few years back. I used to be in love with them. I noticed my interest in them begin to wane when my daughter was about 3. Now that my youngest is about 10, I find my interest returning. I can see that for this, there is a subconscious belief about having those nice glass decorations around toddlers and young children. Sometimes, we lose interest for a time because of the stage of life we are in.

I have also heard of a Karmic desire for things. An ancestor, or for those of you who believe in past lives a past life could affect what you are drawn to. I wish I remembered the details of a story I heard. I believe the ancestor was a pig farmer or something and they slaughtered a number of pigs. The descendant was drawn to collecting pig figurines. When she reached a certain number, she stopped collecting, in fact, she lost interest in pigs altogether. There was a figurine for each pig slaughtered as if that would somehow make up for the failings of the ancestor. Of course, none of this was conscious until a psychic got involved to give answers.

When we are decluttering, it can be easy to want to keep holding onto things like my butterflies, or this other person and her pigs. At one time, they gave great joy but now not so much. It isn't uncommon to think we need to hold on for the past's sake, or even for the “one day I might love it again” idea. Living in the past or future like this does not make our soul sing.

If you are really asking your soul what makes it sing, you might get an answer like, “pack it away for a time.” I didn't understand why a pillow that doesn't seem to match my decor was something for me to keep but I kept it. Now the answer is becoming clear as I am turning my attention to decorating my bedroom in mermaid themes. The pillow will be a perfect fit. If you don't get a strong “Yes, it makes my soul sing,” or another reason to keep it or pack it away, is it really worth keeping? We want to surround our soul with things that make it sing.

Holding onto things because they once brought us joy is living in the past. Our season may have come to an end. Holding onto what we might need someday, is living in a future that may never exist. It's also a sign of living in scarcity. If you have an abundant or blessings mindset, you will trust you have what you need and will have what you need.

I do have one exception. In my church, we have been guided to have food and emergency storage. It's a hard act to balance. On the one hand, we don't want to live in fear of what could happen. On the other hand, we want to be obedient. In cases like these, I ask that you commune with your higher power for the answer that is right for you. Keep what you need in a state of obedience, not fear. Check in about each item and make sure it is right for you and that your reason is not fear-based. Just as with all things, they should make your soul sing. Obedience would make your soul sing, fear will make your soul cringe.

For me, the season of butterflies in my personal life is coming to an end. I'm moving out of a state of transformation and into a state of living in the flow and magic of life, hence the mermaids. Mermaids live in the flow and they are magical creatures. My business still feels aligned with butterflies so I will still have them on my wall for the background of my YouTube videos and around in my logo and such for business. My business is still transforming people's lives.

Does this mean I'll get rid of all the other butterflies in my life? No. The candle is still beautiful and reminds me of the love of a friend, so I'll keep it. There are other things that have similar sentiments. I'll look at each butterfly individually to see if it makes my heart sing. If someone gives me a butterfly, I'll ask that object if it makes my heart sing as well. I don't hate butterflies. I still like them, I just don't have that strong pull anymore, and that's okay.

Is there something in your life that you have been holding onto because it once was? Is there something you are holding onto for a someday that may never come? Do they make your soul sing? If not, is it time to let them go?

Michele
