Start in the Middle

Having a fun conversation with my daughter. It all started with a conversation about her desire to be an actual bard. Well, really it started last night when we were talking about how her back was out of alignment and that led to talking about her room (because I'm me) and we discovered what area was out of alignment. Purpose, it all boiled down to purpose.

She hadn't even done any of the work in her room and just the awareness last night had her writing in her book, after being stuck for a while. Along with the book was her talking about what she really wants to do. She wants to go around singing and telling stories in person like an actual bard. Just that awareness last night was powerful enough to get her moving forward. Imagine what will happen when she actually does the work in her room!

It led me to talking about my career. What room in the house is associated with my career? The laundry room. We talked about how overwhelming it is. Her stuff is in there. My mom's stuff is in there. My stuff is getting buried. How I don't know where to start? This is where her quote comes in. "I would start in the middle because people don't expect that."

Starting in the middle of this challenge isn't really an option because I wouldn't know where the middle is. The thing that struck me was "people don't expect that." How could I approach this in a new and unexpected way?

I decided to go the route of saying, "Yes, I want to be invisible. Why do I want to be invisible?" Although I didn't get direct answers. The energy opened up and other ideas started coming.

The next day, we were talking to my younger daughter about how her style makes her feel sexy. She said the word sexy with such shame. I'm not talking the sexy of immodest clothing but there is such a connotation around the word that we can't see it any other way. Again, me being me, we went clearing that. She had some comparisonitis to take care of.

We ended with dancing to some songs that own being sexy. Mehan Trainor's song "Me Too" was one we played. My older daughter came in my face and sang "If I were you, I'd want to be me too." That's when things came back around to me. My internal response was, "Yeah, I do want to be you."

In fact, as I'm looking through different thoughts they all boil down to "I don't want to be me." It's not an unheard of thought in my head, but it isn't one that stood out so strong before. Now, I'm healing it. Will it be fully gone the next time I write? I hope so but if not, it's ok because layers will be gone and that's a step closer.

An unexpected approach brought an idea fully into my mind to address. What unexpected approach do you need in order to heal your life and declutter your home?

Accentuate the Positive

My dear friends,

Things have been so hard lately. I haven't been able to do so much and it's been so discouraging. I have felt very much like a fraud.

On November 8th, I had an accident at work. Because it's worker's comp, it has been taking a long time to get anywhere. A month after the accident, I had the official diagnosis. The ligament broke away from the bone and there was a hairline fracture. I broke my knee and surgery is required.

I had an aha tonight that was quite interesting. I was journaling a year in review. I was writing about my job and the toll it was taking on me and then about my accident. I mentioned that I broke my knee and it was my soul screaming “you need a break.” Is it a surprise I broke my knee? I got a physical break in my knee and it's forced me to take it really easy.

Emotionally, this has been crazy. Unable to carry anything, for my hands are occupied with crutches. Unable to do my own laundry. I can't even take a shower by myself. This has been hard.

One of the hardest parts has been an absolute frustration with the state of my home and my feelings of inability to do anything about it. I have literally felt like I couldn't do anything, which of course is an absolute that isn't true. I have been limited but there are still things I can do.

How many times do we say absolutes like that? How many times do we prevent ourselves from achieving anything because we have gone into a negative absolute?

I learned a game called “What If Up” and the point is to spiral up not down. Instead of going down the what-if cycle of despair, you consciously choose to go up. What if I was so powerful I could ask and my home would be cleaned? What if the worker's comp approved surgery so fast and I get my surgery right away? What if my home were as peaceful as I desire it to be?

I know the pieces of my life have been falling into place. It's been an interesting couple of weeks watching it happen. I desired to get my children pajamas for Christmas and the way was provided. They finally called for my son's testing. I have been led to some incredible resources to help me succeed and be ME. All of this from changing my perspective.

It started like this. I was frustrated and telling my friend that it felt like things were falling apart. I then gave myself permission to have things fall apart. Well, when I do that, I follow with a positive. I give myself permission for things to come together. I give myself permission for things to fall into place. When I did that there was so much energy shifting and it was the next day that I got the means to buy pajamas and the call about testing. When I repeated some clearings about things coming together was when other things synchronistically showed up.

Imagine your life if you played what up games or gave yourself permission for positive things to happen!

Things still aren't perfect for me but I'm sure doing my best to focus on the positives. My life is coming together and I have peace in my life. What about you?

Michele

What Can I Do for My Home

Today, as of writing this, I was thinking about some of the tools that I don't always use in my home. I gave myself a solution so that I too would apply this one particular tool on a regular basis.

Remember my post about my daily planning? You can read it here if you've forgotten or haven't read it yet. Today, I realized that it is super important that I have 8 areas that I ask about. I must ask about my home.

This is how it works.

After I have asked about the 7 areas in my life from the previous post, I ask:

“What can I do for my home today?” This morning my answer was clean the bathroom sink.
“What part of my life does that correlate with?” My answer was my inner peace and self-image.
“What thoughts or feelings do I have about the area and task?” For me, I feel frustrated kids haven't been doing it.
“How does that apply to my life?” I kind of did an “Oh crap” moment as I realized that I have been expecting God to fix things for me.

Now that I have that information, I will clean that area and I will look at what I can do about fixing my own inner peace and self-image. God is there to support me and help me when I've done what I can, but it isn't his job to fix the problem. There is much I can do to keep the bathroom counter clean and still allow my kids to have their job. In fact, if I take care of my makeup and hair supplies the kids will find it easier to do their part. How is that perfect in allowing God to do his part?

I invite you to tune into your life by using your home as a magnifying glass. Ask yourself the same questions.

  • What can I do for my home today?
  • What part of my life does that correlate with?
  • What thoughts and feelings do I have about the area and tasks?
  • How does that apply to my life?
  • As I'm working in my home, what can I do for my life?

What ahas did you get? I'd love to hear in the comments below!

Choices

Today, I want to talk about choices. I think sometimes we forget that we can choose.

Yesterday, I was getting ready for a meeting. I had been feeling anxious about the meeting because of some earlier experiences with this person.

I decided it was time to change things. I asked myself some questions like this. What am I feeling? Often, we just say we feel angry when really, we are feeling sad and that anger is acting as protection. Maybe we are afraid, and the anger is once again a secondary emotion. Getting to the bottom of our feelings can really help us to get through this. The funny thing for me this time is that I had healed the underlying feelings and was just left with this feeling of defensiveness. Identifying defensiveness allowed me to choose the next step.

Do I want to stay defensive? My answer was no. Amazing that for me, that was all it took. I felt myself relax. Sometimes, our answer is yes, or in another situation, I got half as my answer. I was able to let go of the half and allowed myself to keep the other half. Too often, we don't allow ourselves to stay angry if we want to. If we allow ourselves to stay in a negative emotion if that's what we desire, we'll actually be ready to let it go easier and faster. Feelings aren't bad, we all feel all kinds of things. It is what we do while we are feeling that way that is bad. If I choose to journal my feelings, that's a healthy expression. If I choose to harm another, that's an unhealthy expression. The feeling was never the problem so if you feel like staying in a negative feeling, then do it for a while.

After I let go of the feeling of defensive, I asked myself what I wanted to feel instead. I think this is an important step. We have a habit of going to certain feelings but if we can give our subconscious a feeling to seek, we'll go there instead. Yesterday, I chose curiosity. Instead of feeling defensive that her ideas would not work for me, I chose to be curious about her ideas. This allowed me to stay open to insight that could add to her ideas and make them work for both of us. In the end, it was an incredible meeting and I felt better without that defensiveness hanging around.

I'm inviting you to try it. In fact, let's bring this into the home for an experiment. Pick one area of your home that is bugging you. Overwhelm? Fear? Define the feelings you feel about that area. Now that you have it defined, ask yourself if you would like to stay feeling that way. If you get a no, then notice how much releases. If it isn't releasing, then try this phrase, “I am feeling this fully, and completely and then I release it completely.” Once you have the feeling gone, ask yourself what you would like to feel instead. Follow with saying, “I feel _____ about this.” You can also ask, “Why do I feel ____ about this?” Like my choice to feel curious, I could say, “I feel curious about this,” or, “Why do I feel curious about this?”

How did it go? I would love to hear from you so go ahead and leave a comment below!

The Right Questions

What would it take?

This is one of my favorite questions in the whole wide world. I have heard so many amazing stories about it and I have had my own incredible experiences.

Before I learned this question, I would ask “How can I?” I'd get stuck on something and ask “How can I do this?” I'd often get an idea in my head, act on it and things would be great.

It's based on the idea that we come up against a problem and we usually think there are two answers. Either it has to be done this one way, or it can't be done. I'm sure you have come across things like this. It happens when we are so narrowed into one point and one solution. We can't imagine how it could be done if we didn't do it this one certain way. Either/or, black and white, only one way or no way.

Now, if we take that same situation and ask “How can I?” something amazing happens. When we ask the question, it's like we take a step back and can begin to see that there are other possibilities. Instead of being zoomed in on one solution, we've asked our subconscious mind to start looking for a solution. Our brains love to do that for us so it starts showing other possible solutions.

For me, this was incredible. I was finally starting to get answers. A question I still use is “How can I say this?” I use that when I am trying to explain something. I often get just the right thoughts in my head in order to explain.

When I learned to ask What would it take (WWIT) I found amazing things happened. The first question has one key word in it. The word “I”. “How can I do this?” WWIT doesn't have that small word in it at all. This opens up to even more possibilities! Let me share my favorite personal story.

One day, I was looking at the pantry closet. I was frustrated with how disorganized it was. I also knew that I had a lot going on and the chances that I would be able to get the closet organized was pretty slim. I asked WWIT. “What would it take to get this closet organized?” I didn't receive an answer like I sometimes do. That's okay because the possibilities were put out there.

Note, this all took place in my mind. I didn't express to anyone, not even in a text to a friend. I didn't tell anyone the closet bugged me. I didn't say the WWIT out loud. It was all silent and to myself. The very next day, my mom cleaned out the closet. I was a believer.

Miracles like this don't happen all the time. More often than not, I get a thought in my head. One time, I was struggling with a former website. I knew that a certain function was possible but nothing I was doing was working. When I asked WWIT, my answer was, "Go to bed." I argued. I didn't want to go to bed. I was so close. It was the last function I needed in order to go live. Begrudgingly, I went to bed. When I awoke the next morning, the solution was in my mind. I hopped on and had the site live within a few minutes.

I have heard stories where the idea of what to do came straight to mind. I have heard others being told to go to the park. They didn't know why but they went. While at the park they met someone who had the exact solution they were looking for. When we ask WWIT, we are inviting the universe to play along and orchestrate solutions that don't have “I” in them along with the solutions that do.

Sometimes, we ask WWIT and we get an answer that we don't know how to do. Let's say, you never have built a website before. You asked WWIT to launch a service you have and the answer was, "Build a website." Now, you could say, “I don't know how,” and walk away. Sad for you because you just told the universe “No, I don't really want your help.”

Instead of saying I don't know how, what if you asked WWIT? "WWIT to build a website?" Maybe you don't get an answer but as you get on FB there is an ad for a website design course. You could ask if it was the course for you and if you feel really light and expansive, you know that you just got your answer. Maybe instead, you hear an answer, “Hire someone.” Then you ask, "WWIT to know who to hire? WWIT to pay for it?"

The key to success with WWIT is to ask WWIT until you get to an actionable step and do it. If you don't get an answer, trust it is on its way. Either the answer is coming, and you'll act then, or the universe is putting a bug in someone's ear like with my mom.

Before I go, if you want to really add some power to WWIT, try asking it in prayer. It is my belief that there is a Divine team waiting to serve you and they love to answer this question.

What would it take for you to create what you want to create today?

Michele
